abstract |
A composition comprising poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB) polymer, wherein the composition is produced by a process comprising: adding an effective amount of ethanol to a P4HB biomass to extract lipids into the ethanol; separating the P4HB biomass from the ethanol by solid-liquid separation; collect the washed biomass with ethanol; and extracting the P4HB polymer into a solvent; said composition having at least one property selected from the group consisting of: (i) a nitrogen content of 40 ppm or less; (ii) a hydrogen content of 7.02%±0.3% as determined by elemental combustion analysis, and (iii) a lipid content of less than 100 ppm as determined by gas chromatography analysis after butanolysis. |
