PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING SUBSTITUTED 1,1-BIPHENYL -3-ILMEthyl COMPOUNDS, OF FORMULA (I), IN WHICH Y IS A HYDROXYL OR A CARBOXYLATE DISPLACEMENT GROUP; A IS 2-METHYL; B IS 0 AND A IS 1. CONSISTS OF THE REACTION OF 3-IODINE-2-METHYLBENZYL ALCOHOL WITH SODIUM THIOSULPHATE FAVORED BY IRRADIATION WITH UV LIGHT; FOLLOWED BY OPTIONAL TREATMENT WITH PHOSPHORUS TRIBROMIDE OR PENTABROMIDE. THE IRRADIATION REACTION IS CARRIED OUT IN BENZENE AS A SOLVENT, IN THE PRESENCE OF WATER, IN AN INERT ATMOSPHERE, AT AMBIENT TEMPERATURE. THESE COMPOUNDS HAVE APPLICATIONS IN AGRICULTURE AS INSECTICIDES AND ACARICIDES. |
