abstract In a method for producing nanofibrillated cellulose starting from a cellulose pulp (P) in which the cellulose is in native form, the cellulose pulp is pre-milled by circulating it in the form of an aqueous fibrous suspension through a grinding gap (G) formed by opposing groups of grinding rods moving in the gap. The cellulosic pulp is recycled until a degree of grinding of less than 55 ml CSF, preferably 50 ml CSF or less, more preferably 20 ml CSF or less is reached. The pre-milled pulp is transferred to a digestion process (2) where the pre-milled pulp is decomposed into nanofibril cellulose (NFC).
