abstract | An alkyl benzene (I) having 2-4C alkyl substituents on the ring is isomerised by contacting (I) with a catalyst compsn. comprising (a) 80-20% Pt-alumina component in which 0.1 - 3.0 p.b.w. Pt are supported on 100 p.b.w. solid consisting essentially of alumina, and (b) 20-80% partially dialkalised mordenite form crystalline alumino-silicate contg. 0.1 - 0.9 equiv. metal selected from alkali(ne earth) metals/g. atom Al forming ion-exchanging sites. The mordenite has 60 m. equiv/100 g of a cation exchange capacity and components (a) and (b) are finely divided and thoroughly dispersed in each other. |
