abstract | A fibre-forming block copolymer with mol. wt. 5,000-100,000 has repeating units of structure where A is the residue of a melt-spinnable polyamide R1, R2 and R3 and H, 1-10C alkyl or 3-10C isoalkyl, R4 is 1-10C alkylene or 3-10C isoalkylene, R5 is 6-14C arylene, y = 2-100 and z = 2-150. The fibres have better moisture absorption than known polyamides, e.g. nylon 6. Other properites of the fibre are not affected by the poly(dioxa-arylamide). Fibres obtd. by spinning or by melt-spinning the copolymers are claimed. The copolymer can be used for prods. other than fibres. |
