abstract | Process for separating 11-cyanoundecanoic acid, cyclohexanone and epsilon -caprolactam from the product obtained by pyrolysis of 1,1'-peroxydicyclohexylamine in the presence of water vapor at a temperature of 300 to 1000 degrees C. the pyrolysis product in contact with a mixture of aqueous ammonia and an organic solvent chosen from the group formed by benzene, toluene and xylene, the oily layer and the aqueous layer are separated, the cyclohexanone is separated from the oily layer by distillation, the aqueous layer is acidified to pH less than 4.0 by addition of mineral acid and maintained between 40 and 100 degrees C, which causes separation of the crude 11-cyanoundecanoic acid at 'molten state, then the separated acid is washed with hot water, thereby separating the epsilon -caprolactam. 11-Cyanoundecanoic acid is a raw material for the preparation of Nylon-12, and epsilon -caprolactam and cyclohexanone are a raw material for the preparation of Nylon-6. |
