This distillation column is intended to remove monomeric vinyl chloride or other volatile material from a suspension, emulsion or dispersion which contains it. The column contains a series of floors each made up of a tapered top open in its center, arranged in a bowl and surmounted by a conical cap. The mixture arriving at 12 is spread over the caps and trays and water vapor is injected via ramps 15, 16, 17 and 18, which rises in counter-current with respect to the downward flow of the starting material. The monomer or other volatile matter is released from the mixture and is evacuated at 13 by a vacuum pump and then recovered. The mixture enriched in non-volatile constituents, for example the polymer, is collected at the bottom of the column. |
