Carboxylic acid anhydrides are reacted with hydrogen in the presence of a cobalt-carbonyl to obtain corresponding alkylidene diesters in high yield and with similar ratios of these diesters to the co-produced carboxylic acid. of theory. The process applies in particular to the transformation of acetic anhydride into ethylidene diacetate which is a basic chemical intermediate in organic synthesis. |
