abstract An austenitic stainless steel, the composition of which comprises: at most 0.15% C; - from 2% to 10% of Mn; - at most 2% of Ni; - at most 4% of Cu; - from 0.1 to 0.4% of N; - from 10 to 20% of Cr; - at most 1% of Si; - at most 3% of Mo; and at most 0.7% of Ti is used for the manufacture of equipment, for example furnaces, reactors or pipes, or parts of these equipment, or for coating the internal walls of such equipment, said equipment being used in carrying out petrochemical processes which take place at temperatures from 350 degreC to 1100 degreC and in which coke can form.
