titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR CONVERTING METHANE TO ETHANE |
abstract | The present invention relates to a process for converting methane to carbonaceous products, characterized in that methane is brought into contact with a metal catalyst comprising at least one metal, Me, chosen from lanthanides, actinides and metals of Groups 2 to 12 of the Periodic Table of Elements, so as to form ethane in a proportion of at least 65% by weight relative to the carbonaceous products formed in the process. It also relates to a ethane manufacturing process comprising, as a main step, a conversion of methane comprising contacting the methane with the catalyst leading to form ethane with a ethane weight selectivity of at least 65% compared to carbon products formed in the process. The methane conversion is carried out in particular by catalytic coupling, preferably non-oxidizing, methane. The catalyst may advantageously be chosen from metal hydrides and organometallic compounds of metal Me, preferably supported and in particular grafted onto a solid support. The conversion of methane can be carried out under an absolute total pressure ranging from 10-3 to 100 MPa and at a temperature ranging from -30 ° C to + 800 ° C. The advantage of the process is to obtain ethane with a weight selectivity that can be extremely high, for example at least 95%, and especially at least 98% or even at least 99%. |
