titleOfInvention | PROCESS FOR THE COMBINED MANUFACTURE OF ETHYLENE OXIDE AND ETHANOLAMINE (S) |
abstract | The present invention relates to a process for the combined manufacture of ethylene oxide and ethanolamine (s) comprising the following steps: (a) a step of synthesizing ethylene oxide by contacting ethylene with molecular oxygen in the presence of a catalyst so as to form a reaction gas mixture containing ethylene oxide, (b) an absorption step by contacting the mixture obtained in step (a) with water so as to form a dilute solution of ethylene oxide, (c) a step of desorption by steam entrainment of the solution obtained in step (b) so as to form a mixture of water enriched in ethylene oxide, separated from an aqueous solution depleted in ethylene oxide, and (d) a step of purification of the ethylene oxide by distillation of the mixture obtained in step (c). The process is characterized in that part of the mixture obtained in step (c) is taken before step (d), then is brought into contact directly or indirectly with ammonia in a step (e) of synthesis of ethanolamine (s). The method of the present invention has the advantage of simplifying the various steps leading to the manufacture and isolation of these products, and of reducing operating costs and possibly investment, without substantially affecting the quality of the products. thus manufactured in combination.
