The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing consumable absorber nuclear fuel pellets and consumable absorber nuclear fuel pellets thus obtained. The method of manufacture comprises adding a boron compound and a manganese compound to one or more types of pulverulent nuclear fuel selected from uranium dioxide (UO), plutonium dioxide (PuO), and thorium dioxide (ThO), and their mixture (step a); compacting the powder mixture of step a) to obtain tablets (step b); and sintering the tablets of step b) under a hydrogen atmosphere (step c). According to the process, the sintering can be carried out under a hydrogen atmosphere at a temperature lower than that conventionally used during the mass production of sintered pellets of nuclear fuel, by the addition of sintering additives such as oxide of manganese or an equivalent compound. |
