The present invention relates to a process for the production of middle distillates comprising a hydrotreatment step followed by the hydrocracking of a VGO type hydrocarbon feed, separation of the effluent from the hydrocracking step, and the dispatch separate light effluent having a final boiling point below 250 ° C in an olefin production stage, that is to say a steam cracking stage.
