titleOfInvention Improvements in or relating to degreasing
abstract <PICT:1087932/C6-C7/1> Oil, grease and contaminants which rise to the surface of a detergent liquid containing an abrasive are removed in apparatus for degreasing articles comprising a main tank 11 having immersion heaters 12 and a separating tank 120 each having a sloping bottom and connected by conduits 21 and 22. The top layer of liquid in tank 11 passes over a weir 21a and flows to the top of tank 120 where the contaminants form a layer 24. Decontaminated liquid is returned by pump 23 to tank 11 through conduit 22 having an outlet 24 at the liquid level directed towards the weir. Liquid may be removed from tank 120 through an overspill pipe 27 and contaminant through valved pipe 28. Tank 11 forms part of apparatus for abrading and degreasing articles placed on a wire mesh 13 and sprayed with liquid through nozzles 18 supplied by a pump 19. The articles are viewed through a window 14 having a wiper 15 supplied with clean water and are manipulated using rubber gloves 17 in a rubber apron 16. Pumps 19 and 23 are preferably of the type described in Specification 840,671; the detergent liquid may be an aqueous solution.
