titleOfInvention | Improvements in and relating to the treatment of shoe upper foreparts |
abstract | 1,096,001. Boots &c. SHOE & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. July 24, 1964 [April 25, 1963], No. 16382/63. Heading A3B. A shoe upper forepart 1 is prepared for lasting by stretching the forepart along its lateral margins (i.e. along lines 6, Fig. 1) and setting the stretch e.g. by the application of heat or heat and moisture. The forepart may also be stretched in the region of the tab points 2 (i.e. along lines 7). The stretch is preferably set only inside the feather line 5 so that the lasting margin may be turned under with little or no wrinkling. In order to produce the stretching (Fig. 3) the forepart is folded along its centre line and is clamped at its toe end between a central jaw 8 and two side jaws 9 and the waist end is similarly clamped between a central jaw 15 and two side jaws 16. The toe clamping assembly can be moved away from the waist clamping assembly by a pneumatic ram 13 to stretch the lateral margins of the forepart and a curved bar 17 is raised by a pneumatic ram (not shown) to stretch the tab points of the forepart. The stretch is set by heated plates 18 which are moved to contact the forepart by rams 20. Alternatively the forepart may be heated by hot-air blasts or by dielectric heating. Moisture may be applied to the forepart before stretching or during stretching e.g. by placing a porous pad, charged with water, between the forepart and the heating plates 18. |
