1,102,196. Compressing gas. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Oct. 10, 1966 [Oct. 14, 1965], No. 43592/65. Heading F1N. Gas such as helium, neon or argon from a source 1 passes through a gas storage tank 2 and a surge tank 4 to a compressor 5 and a liquefier 6, the inlet pressure being maintained substantially constant by a pressure controller 3 which closes in response to a pre-selected pressure occurring in the surge tank 4 and by a second controller 9 which returns compressed gas through a line 10 to the storage tank if the pressure in the surge tank rises above the pre-selected pressure. The controllers may be in the form of diaphragm operated needle valves responsive to the pressure in the surge tank. A third pressure controller 11 is provided which returns compressed gas through a line 7 to the surge tank if its pressure exceeds a predetermined value. The line 7 also returns gas not liquefied in the liquefier 6. |
