abstract | 1,118,303. Radiation pyrometers. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. Nov. 22, 1965 [Nov. 27, 1964], No.48280/64. Heading G1A. [Also in Division G3] The temperature of a body being radiantly heated is measured by a detector receiving radiation from the body through a filter which has maximum transmission for the radiation emitted by the body and a minimum transmission for radiation from the heat source reflected by the body. The measurement is used to control the radiant source. The detector 17, Fig. 2, is mounted on a diaphragm 21 behind the filter 16 mounted on a diaphragm 20. The diaphragms restrict the field of view and reduce the heat reaching the detector. A cooling water jacket 22 is provided. A spectrally selective reflective coating may be provided on the lens 15 instead of or in addition to filter 16. In a modification, a further detector is provided which receives radiation through a filter transmitting reflected radiation in preference to emitted radiation, the output of this detector being backed off against the output of the first to remove any residual error. If the temperature of the source remains constant during the heating cycle, this backing-off may be effected by a constant bias. |
