titleOfInvention Pigmented plastics material
abstract 1,119,193. Ornamenting. J. P. WARING. 28 March, 1967 [16 April, 1966], No. 16787/66. Heading B6G. [Also in Division B5] Pigmented moulded plastics material is produced by applying a dye or pigment to a setting thermoplastic plastics material in a transparent mould, and allowing the material to set. The plastics material is preferably an unsaturated polyester resin and the pigment an organic or inorganic compound in suspension or solution, for example red lead or a pearl essence comprising bismuth oxychloride dispersed in dibutyl phthalate. Subsequent layers may be applied before the first layer sets; these layers may optionally be coloured; the final layer may be dark or opaque and a backing such as strawboard, plywood, timber, concrete or breeze block applied, forming a building element. Objects may be embedded in the resin by laying them on an initial layer of resin and objects which have to be accurately positioned such as letters, may be stuck to the base of the mould so that they are inlaid in the surface of the finished article. The mould may be a vacuum moulding of 6 thousandths of an inch polyvinyl chloride, or may be made of cellulose acetate, cellulose acetate butyrate, acrylic plastics or glass.
