abstract | 1,162,537. Trueing grinding wheels; electroerosion. F. JOS. LAMB CO. Inc. 19 Oct., 1966 [19 Oct., 1965], No. 46704/66. Headings B3D and B3V. A method of dressing a grinding wheel comprises reforming a crush roll by electric discharge machining and then using it to dress the grinding wheel. In apparatus for carrying out the method, the crush roll 18 is mounted on a shaft 28 carried by a frame 35 movable about a pivot 32 by a jack mechanism to position the roll either in engagement with the grinding wheel 10 or adjacent an electrode wheel 20 which may be of carbon and has a profile corresponding to that to be formed on the grinding wheel. The crush roll, which may be of metal carbide, is rotatable rapidly by a motor mounted on the frame 35 during crush dressing and at a slow speed or in small increments during reforming. The electrode wheel is rotated at high speed by a motor 38 during reforming and either the crush roll or electrode wheel is provided with either A.C. or interrupted D.C. at high potential to produce arcing so as to remove material from the roll. A dielectric oil is supplied from an outlet 64 and is collected in a trough 66. The electrode wheel is dressed between reforming operations by a blade 80 which is movable along a guideway 82 by a motor or knob 90. |
