titleOfInvention | Removal of Solder from Soldered Surfaces |
abstract | 1,162,634. Soldering. ADCOLA PRODUCTS Ltd. 6 March, 1967 [12 March, 1966], No. 10986/66. Heading B3R. A soldering iron bit includes a pssage or passages extending from its working surface, the passage or passages being of capillary dimensions so that molten solder may be drawn into the passage or passages. The passages are preferably of 0.008 to 0.03 inch in width and the bit may be employed in an electrically or gas heated iron. A copper tube 1, Fig. 2, with an outer diameter of 0.125 inch, an inner diameter of 0.07 inch and a length of 2 inches has a tapered end 3 for insertion into a soldering iron socket and a bevelled working surface. Three round copper wires 5 each 0.02 inch diameter are secured in the tube by crimping at 6, 7, so that a central passage is formed between the wires and a passage or passages between the wires and tube, all of capillary dimensions. Solder drawn into the bit may be ejected by a sharp downward movement of the bit. The wires may number one or thirty. The bit may alternatively be a solid cylindrical copper rod with eleven passages through the rod or may be a tubular body in which are arranged three wire coils 16, 17, 18, Fig. 6, located one within the other and extending to the surface 4. Alternatively, four coils may be arranged side-by-side. The wires or coils may be of gold, silver or copper and the body of the bit may be of steel, copper or aluminium. |
