titleOfInvention Process for Preparing N-acyl Urethanes
abstract 1,199,870. Preparation of N-acyl urethanes. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 4 Sept., 1968 [4 Sept., 1967], No. 42155/68. Heading C2C. N-acyl urethanes, e.g. those of the formula wherein R represents an alkyl group containing 1-18 carbon atoms which may be substituted, a C 1-4 alkenyl group, a cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl group, or an alkylene group, which may be substituted, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> each represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or together represent a bivalent aliphatic radical, a is 0 or 1, and n is 1 or 2, are obtained by reacting an organic acid amide containing at least one hydrogen atom linked to an amide nitrogen atom with a trihalogeno acetic acid ester. The compounds of the above formula are obtained by reacting n moles of an organic amide of the formula with (a + 1) moles of a compound of the formula wherein X represents a halogen atom. The reaction is generally effected at a temperature of 0-200‹ C. in the presence of a basic catalyst and optionally in the presence of an organic solvent. The preferred catalysts are tertiary and sterically hindered amines but other compounds possessing basic properties may also be employed.
