titleOfInvention | Multifilament yarn having sufficient cohesive property for weaving or knitting operation |
abstract | 1,201,931. Coherent multifilament yarn. TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc. 17 July, 1967 [19 July, 1966; 22 Aug., 1966; 15 Oct., 1966], No. 32829/67. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions C3, C5 and D1] A multifilament yarn having a twist below 0À9 turns per inch and having sufficient cohesive property for weaving or knitting comprises a plurality of individual filaments of less than 50 in number and below 16 denier individual fineness, the individual filaments being composed of a synthetic linear polymer and being molecularly oriented, a plurality of the individual filaments being in cohered condition by there having been applied thereto prior to or after drawing to molecularly orient the individual filaments, an aqueous emulsion containing (a) a lubricating agent, (b) an emulsifier and (c) a copolymer of ethylene or propylene with vinyl acetate or acrylic or methacrylic acid, a reaction product of partially oxidized polyethylene with a compound of the formula HO(C 2 H 4 O) m (C 3 H 6 O) n H in which m is greater than 1 and n is 0 or greater than 1 or an ethylene oxide addition product of partially oxidized polyethylene, but without substantially fixing them to each other, the cohesive property of the yarn being expressed by the formula (X - 20) (Y - 20) > O and X > 20, in which X represents the initial cohesive property and Y the durable cohesive property of the multifilament yarn, in a test, details of which are given. In examples, the multifilament yarn is of nylon-6. The emulsifier (b) may be a polyethylene oxide condensation product of a higher fatty alcohol, alkyl phenol or higher fatty acid or a sorbitan or sugar ester. In addition to (b) and (c) the composition may contain refined mineral oil, glycerine monooleate, butyl oleate, potassium hydroxide and oleic acid-diethanolamide. |
