1,207,048. 2-Alkyl-4-oxa-steroids. F. HOFFMAN-LA ROCHE & CO. A.G. 1 Nov., 1968 [2 Nov., 1967], No. 51935/68. Heading C2C. The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein m is 1 or 2, R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-5 primary alkyl, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>, R<SP>7</SP> and R<SP>8</SP> are each H or C 1-8 alkyl, R<SP>5</SP> is C 1-8 alkyl, R<SP>2</SP> is H, R<SP>6</SP> is OH, or R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>6</SP> together represent an extra bond, Z is carbonyl or C(#-OR<SP>9</SP>)(α-R<SP>10</SP>) wherein R<SP>9</SP> is H or C 1-7 acyl and R<SP>10</SP> is H or C 1-5 hydrocarbyl, and the wavy lines indicate α or #-configurations. The compounds wherein R<SP>2</SP> + R<SP>6</SP> represent an extra bond are prepared by acid cyclization of compounds of formula wherein R<SP>11</SP> is C 1-8 alkoxy, and are converted to the compounds wherein R<SP>2</SP> is H and R<SP>6</SP> is OH by treatment with aqueous acid. The conversion of compounds of Formula I into steroids and the preparation of compounds of Formula II are described as in Specification 1,207,047. |
