titleOfInvention System for poultry injection
abstract 1,216,632. Injecting poultry with an edible fat mixture. ARMOUR & CO. 24 Jan., 1969 [24 Jan., 1968], No. 4077/69. Heading A2E. Apparatus for injecting poultry with an edible fat mixture comprises a manifold 47 having hollow needles 48 through which the mixture is injected under pressure through a hose 46 after manual insertion of the needles into the poultry, and a control system comprising a valve 42 to admit and shut off the supply of mixture, wherein the valve is controlled by a timer mechanism actuable after insertion of the needles such that the valve is opened for a preset time and then closed again, a signal means being provided to indicate when the supply of mixture has been shut off. Actuation of the timer mechanism is initiated by an operator depressing a pedal 50 which energizes the motor and a clutch of the timer and causes energization of a valveactuating solenoid in the valve 42 and also of an indicator light 51. When the timer motor stops at the end of the preset period the solenoid is de-energized and the light extinguished. The electric circuit (Fig. 6, not shown) comprises a timer and associated circuit for each of two sets of four operating stations, there being four stations on each side of a table 38 over which pairs of carcasses are moved back to back by an overhead conveyer 30. A different type of manifold is employed at each of the four stations on both sides of the conveyer, i.e. one for the lower breast, one for the right leg, one for the left leg and one for the upper breast of each bird, each station having an associated valve 42, pedal 50, pilot light 51, and also a temperatureregulated water bath 37 for cleaning the manifold needles. The circuit is so arranged that an override switch may be operated to cause simultaneous operation of all the valves 42 on one side of the conveyer whereby cleaning fluid may be passed through all the manifolds when necessary, a similar override switch being provided for the valves 42 on the other side of the conveyer. The fat mixture is preferably obtained by melting butter in a tank 10 and pumping it into a mixing tank 13 to which powdered anhydrous sodium tripolyphosphate is added slowly. The mixture is then pumped to a holding tank 20 from which a pump 22 feeds it under pressure to a pipe 26 supplying the valves 42.
