abstract 1,225,670. Melt spinning composite polyamide filaments. ASAHI KASEI KOGYO K.K. 20 June, 1968 [22 June, 1967], No. 29406/68. Heading B5B. Composite polyamide filaments are produced by simultaneously extruding through each orifice of a spinneret a homopolyamide melt and a copolyamide melt, the homopolyamide and the copolyamide having been raised to the same temperature in separate melting zones, the process being characterized in that the relative viscosity of the copolyamide is from 0À2 to 1À0 higher than that of the homopolyamide, the inclination of the portion of the bottom surface of the spinneret in which the outlets of the orifices are situated to the vertical axis of each spinneret orifice and the relative dispositions of the two polymer streams being such that the homo-polyamide melt stream remains longer in contact with the wall of each orifice than does the stream of the molten copolyamide. The solidified melt spun composite filaments are then stretched at a temperature between 100‹ C. and a temperature not less than 30‹ C. below the melting point of the polyamide component having the lower melting point. The term " relative " viscosity is defined as the ratio of the viscosity of a solution of 1 gram of the polymer in 100 ml. of 95À5% sulphuric acid at 25‹ C. to the viscosity at the same temperature of the acid alone. The spinneret assembly used may be that described and claimed in the applicants' Specification 1,225,669. The homopolyamide may be either nylon 6 or nylon 66. The copolyamide may be a copolymer of #-caprolactam and hexamethylene diammonium adipate or hexamethylene diammonium terephthalate. The copolyamide may be a copolymer of hexamethylene diammonium adipate and hexamethylene sebacate. The copolyamide may be a terpolymer of #-caprolactam, hexamethylene diammonium adipate and hexamethylene diammonium terephthalate.
