A joint having a surface of one load carrying part 32 located within a surface of a second load carrying part 36 has a metallic sleeve 52 located between the surfaces, the sleeve being split into a plurality of circumferentially spaced members 220. The surface of one of the load carrying parts is bonded by an adhesive 208 to one side of the sleeve, and the other side of the sleeve engaging an element in the joint. The element in the joint may either be the second load carrying part (Fig. 2, not shown), or may be a bearing 42 carried by the second load carrying part. The sleeve members may be provided with with radially extending flanges (114, Fig. 2, not shown) which transmit thrust between the load carrying parts. The parts may be made of steel or titanium.
