A fuel fired liquid heater has an outlet passage 22 for the hot gases from the combustion chamber, at least the top of the outlet passage sloping downwardly from the exit from the combustion chamber 11. The top of the combustion chamber 11 and of the outlet passage 22 is formed by a finned plate 19, the top surface of which is secured to the flat bottom of a water-heating tank 2. The combustion chamber 11 is included within a box 1 enclosing expansion chambers 17 for the air delivered by a fan to an inlet 9, and the burner bar 15, and the combustion box 1 and the heating tank 2 are suspended from a chassis member 37 so as to be spaced from the base 5 and casing 4 of the heater. Pads 18, 27, 28 of absorbent material are arranged in the combustion chamber 1, in the passage 22 and in the transverse flue outlet passage 24 to absorb condensate. A water storage tank 3 is supported by the chassis 37, and is connected to the water-heating tank 2 by pipes 42, 43. If the water heated in the tank 2 is used for central heating, the tank 3 may be heated by a coiled pipe connected to the tank 2. |
