Before filling a vessel 1 with molten metal 2 intended to flow out through a horizontal or near horizontal graphite mould 5, a fusible cap 10, e.g. of the same metal, is fitted over the end 4 of the mould to delay the outflow until slag and detritus 11 have floated to the top. When casting phosphor bronze or nickel silver, delays of 2-3 seconds or 4-5 seconds respectively are produced by a cap of the same metal 0À03 inch thick. |
