A photo-sensitive composition comprises a water-soluble polymeric binder, a water-soluble, light-sensitive, simple ferric salt and a watersoluble salt of a monovalent inorganic cation and an organic anion which inhibits the insolubilizing action of the simple salt in the binder until exposed to light and wherein the molar ratio of the inhibiting salt to the simple salt is from 0À5-2À5 to 1. The composition may be coated on a support, imagewise exposed and developed by (i) a per compound which removes the unexposed areas and produce a negative relief image or (ii) an alkaline solution which removes the exposed areas and produces a positive relief image. The specified binder is polyvinyl alcohol and the composition may contain a blue pigment. Specified inhibiting salts are Li, Na, K or ammonium oxalate, Li succinate, Na gluconate and ammonium ferric oxalate or tartrate. The relief image may be applied to a fabric screen and the support removed to produce a screen stencil.
