titleOfInvention | Improvements in or relating to apparatus for carbonating a liquid |
abstract | 1,241,082. Carbonating liquids. CROWN CORK & SEAL CO. Inc. 7 Jan., 1969 [13 Feb., 1968], No. 875/69. Heading B1C. Carbonating apparatus comprises a device 16 for mixing proportionate amounts of water and beverage syrup, a cooler and precarbonator 22 having a plurality of plates 26 over which the liquid mixture flows in an atmosphere of air and carbon dioxide, and a carbonator 10 (see also Fig. 2, not shown) into which the liquid is supplied by an injector nozzle 68 and which is pressurized by carbon dioxide from a supply 42. The carbonated liquid thence passes to a filling machine 40. Supply to the cooler and carbonator is controlled by level sensors 28, 36 respectively. In the injector nozzle 68, Fig. 3, the liquid enters by passage 86 and is discharged through a conical restricted passage 98 (see also Fig. 4, not shown) into the carbonator, carbon dioxide from which is induced through passages 114, 112 to mix with the liquid. The size of the passage 98 and consequently the degree of carbonation can be altered by axial adjustment of the nozzle head 96 by rotation of a cap 104, with which may be associated a vernier scale (110, see Fig. 2, not shown).
