titleOfInvention Measuring instruments
abstract 1,260,193. Electric meters. LEBOCEYINDUSTRIE. April 10, 1969 [April 11, 1968; March 17, 1969], No. 18587/69. Heading G1Q. An electrical instrument incorporates a meter movement with pivoting shaft parts at each end of its pivoting axis, the parts being held and guided by respective semi rigid support pieces, the two support pieces being snap fastened together. One shaft part carries an indicating device. A spiral spring has one end linked to the same shaft part and the other to an adjustable member rotatably mounted relative to one support piece, coaxial with the pivoting shaft parts. In a moving iron type instrument, Fig. 1, a fixed coil 3 is wound on a plastics former 4, into which is snapped a movement assembly mounted within a plastics sleeve 6 metallized at 12 and including a shaft 7 carrying a magnetic vane 11, the shaft being mounted in bearings 10, 15 and carrying an externally observable pointer 1. A return spring 19 is attached at its inner end to a split collar on the shaft 7. The outer end of the spring is fitted into a slot in a movable plastics part 13, which is snap fitted into the end of the sleeve 6 and carries the pivot bearing 15. The position of this can be adjusted by rotating it within the sleeve when the instrument is assembled. In use, fine adjustment of the zero can be achieved by turning the screw 26 from outside the assembly, to rotate the peg 24 and thus the part 13. Damping is provided by an oil filling in a cavity within the part 9 which supports bearing 10. The shaft may carry a plastics paddle which moves in this. In a moving coil instrument, Fig. 10, with a central core magnet 56, the magnet is held in a plastics assembly 36<SP>2</SP> in which one coil bearing 41 is provided. The other bearing is provided in a plastics bridge piece 36<SP>1</SP> which snaps on to the assembly 36<SP>2</SP>. The bearing projections have mounted on them adjustable parts 42, 43. The return springs at the two ends of the moving coil shaft have their outer ends mounted in slots in these parts. One of these, 43 is pre-set when the meter is assembled, while the other is adjustable from outside the front face of the meter by the screw 54. The shaft carries a pointer 35, and the coil is wound on a copper or aluminium former for damping.
