| abstract | 1301441 Preparation of methoxynaphthylpropionic acid and intermediates therefor SYNTEX CORP 20 Jan 1970 0 [30 Sept 1969] 31624/72 Divided out of 1300591 Headings C2B and C2C 2 - (6 - Methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) - propionic acid is prepared by reacting a compound of Formula I: R 1 B(R 2 )R 3 , where R 1 -R 3 are each 2 - (6 - methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) - 1 - propyl, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl at least one being the first mentioned radical; with CrO 3 in an aqueous solution of a lower alkanoic acid followed where desired by optical resolution. The compounds I are claimed per se and may be prepared by reaction of 6-methoxy-2-(2- propenyl)-naphthalene with diborane or a compound HBR 4 R 5 , where R 4 is H, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl and R 5 is alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl. Pharmaceutical compositions comprising the 2 - (6 - methoxy - 2 - naphthyl) - propionic acid, when prepared by the above process, and an excipient are used in treating inflammation, pain and pyrexia. |
