abstract | 1315843 Dyeing and treating textiles IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 April 1971 [5 May 1970] 21618/70 Headings D1B and D1P The invention comprises stabilised emulsions in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent of an aqueous solution or dispersion of a dyestuff, e.g. acid, basic, direct, reactive or disperse, or a textile finishing agent, the emulsion containing as emulsifying agents ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose and at least one anionic surface-active agent. Halogenated hydrocarbons used include trichloroethylene, perchloroethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, monochlorobenzene and 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene. Preferred anionic surface active agents include salts of sulphonated castor oil, the triethanolamine salt of tall oil, the sodium salt of sulphated methyl oleate, sodium oleate and sodium do-decylbenzene sulphonate. The textile finishing agents include fluorescent brightening, water-proofing, crease-resist, antistatic, antisoil-soil release, softening, desizing, flame-proofing and flame-retarding agents. The Examples describe the preparation of the emulsions, preferably containing 0.3% to 20.0% by weight water, by mechanical mixing e.g. in a homogeniser, and Examples 1-15, 19 and 20 describe the dyeing of polyacrylonitrile, polyester, polyamide and cellulose materials and Examples 16-18 describe the application of a stilbene fluorescent brightening agent to cellulosic fabric; a crease resist agent, dimethyloldihydroxyethylene urea, to cellulose and polyester materials, and an antisoil-soil release agent, polyethylene terephthalate/polyoxyethylene terephthalate block copolymer to polyester, polyester/cellulosic and polyester/ wool fabrics. |
