| abstract | 1316135 Hand hammers THOR HAMMER CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 March 1970] 13219/70 Heading B4C A hammer comprises a tubular head 11 provided at each end with a striking face, at least one of which is detachable, and a single, slidable insert within the head. As illustrated, a hammer having an integral head 11 and handle 12 moulded from plastics or die-cast from zincalloy, aluminium or aluminium-alloy comprises a pair of detachable striking faces 13, 14 formed respectively of aluminium alloy and of plastics, e.g. polythene, and a substantially cylindrical insert 19 of metal, e.g. steel, cast iron, lead or zinc alloy, or aluminium. Axial grooves 21 are provided in the periphery of the insert to permit transfer of air from one side of the insert to the other. Alternatively or additionally axial grooves may be provided on the interior of the head. The faces may be of greater diameter than the head. Cushioning discs 22 of resilient plastics material, e.g. polyurethane or rubber, are provided. Cushioning means (Fig. 2, not shown), may be provided on one or each end face of the insert. The interior of the head may be coated with PTFE or a low-friction silicone material. The insert may alternatively be a ball. |
