abstract | 1344844 Monoolefin - conjugated dienyl norbornene terpolymers SNAM PROGETTI SpA 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1970 (2)] 20419/71 Heading C3P Copolymers are formed from at least two C 2 -C 10 olefins and a compound of the formula in which n is 0-3, R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>6</SP> are each hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl, R<SP>8</SP> and R<SP>9</SP> are each hydrogen, alkyl or aryl and B is a group of the formula where R<SP>13</SP> and R<SP>14</SP> are each hydrogen or alkyl and R<SP>10</SP>-R<SP>12</SP>, R<SP>15</SP> and R<SP>16</SP> are each hydrogen, alkyl or aryl. The usual Zeigler catalytic polymerization techniques are employed, including the use of polyiminoalanes as the reducing aluminium compound. In the examples, ethylene-propylene terpolymers with 2 - (2<SP>1</SP>,4<SP>1</SP> - dimethylpenta - 1<SP>1</SP>,3<SP>1</SP> - dienyl)-, 2 - (1<SP>1</SP> - methylene - 3<SP>1</SP>- methyl - buten - 2<SP>1 </SP>- yl)-, and 2 - (1<SP>1</SP> - ethylidene - 2<SP>1 </SP>- methyl - buten - 2<SP>1 </SP>- yl)-, norborn- 5-ene are obtained in the presence of (C 2 H 5 ) 2 - AlCl/VCl 4 or V(CH 3 .CO.CH 2 .CO.CH 3 ) 3 . The polymers are purified by adding n-butanol (short stopper), emulsifying in an aqueous surfactant, breaking the emulsion with acetic acid, washing the polymer solution with an aqueous solution of ethylene diaminotetracetic acid with acetic acid (pH control), stirring, washing, and coagulating with acetone. |
