titleOfInvention Diazo-type multicolour reproduction
abstract 1355981 Diazotype processes MITA INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 30 April 1971 [1 May 1970] 12513/71 Addition to 1292163 Heading G2C Multi-coloured azo dye images are produced by exposing to light and heat simultaneously or successively in either order an assembly comprising an original and a diazotype material and also containing a volatile or sublimable coupler (a) and a sublimable organic transfer promoter which is not a coupler and which reduces the temperature at which coupler (a) transfers disposed between the original and the material in areas corresponding to only part of the total image areas of the original whereby the diazonium compound is decomposed and coupler (a) is transferred to the exposed material and developing the exposed material in the presence of coupler (b), which is slower than coupler (a), to produce an image of one colour in the areas where coupler (a) is transferred and an image of another colour in the areas corresponding with the remaining image of areas of the original. Specified promoters are camphor, camphane, naphthalene, oxalic, benzoic or anthranilic acid, maleic or phthalic anhydride, menthol, pdichlorobenzene and phenanthrene. The process may be carried out as in Specification 1292163 using the couplers and diazonium salts specified therein, the promoter lowering the transfer temperature by 10‹C to obtain the same number of copies. Additional couplers (b) not specified in Specification 1292163 are alpha-resorcyclic acid ethanelamide, beta-resorcyclic acid and 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid aminoethylamide. The exposed diazotype material may be treated with a solution of water, an aliphatic alcohol, an aromatic solvent, an ester or a glycol singly or in combination to ensure uniform contact between the exposed layer and the coupler (a) on transfer. Liquid and waxy compositions containing coupler (a), the promoter and either a liquid solvent or a wax and optionally an oil are claimed in Specification 1355982 and 1355983.
