titleOfInvention Fire-screening system for glazing and other panels
abstract 1359941 Fire-screening panels; glazing GLAVERBEL 15 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28138/ 72 Headings E1J and E1R A fire-screening system comprises fire-screening flowable material 5 positioned in or adjacent a panel, and a temperature responsive component 11 to release or activate the material so that the material covers the panel. In Fig. 2 laminated sheets 2, 3 of glass and PVC layers are spaced by elastically compressed members 4. Upper chamber 5 contains a hydrated substance which is released on melting of wax plug 11 and flows into the space between the sheets forming a solid foam layer. The substance may be sodium silicate, silicagel, borax, silica-aluminate, ferrous sulphate or a carbonate. Alternatively (Fig. 6, not shown) materials are released which mix and form a foam. Alternatively, gas in a reservoir, or produced by a primary reaction in the frame (Fig. 7, not shown) releases materials which foam on mixing. Alternatively, (Fig. 9, not shown), sand is released into a panel by melting of plug (72) e.g. by an electric heating element remotely controlled. The panel may be ceramic.
