abstract 1366589 Stabilizing burner flame height MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 11 Aug 1972 [3 Feb 1972] 37581/72 Heading F4T [Also in Division G3] To stabilize the position of a flame relative to a burner plate 3 radiation from a body (a platinum wire 4) which is heated by the flame is detected at 7 and the resulting signal used to control one or more factors affecting the flame. Gas from a source 16 is mixed with air at 5; preferably the air is controlled by regulating the speed of a blower driven by an A.C. motor. The motor is connected in series with a triac (12, Fig. 2, not shown) whose firing angle is adjusted (11) by the amplified output of the radiation detector 7. Alternatively, control is effected by a valve in the gas and/or air supply. The detector may be a CdS element, a phototransistor or a photo-electric cell. The object is to prevent blow-out or backfire, or to operate in a region of low noise.
