titleOfInvention Manufacture of glass fibre reinforced plaster board
abstract 1378695 Plaster boards ASBESTOS CEMENT Ltd 16 June 1972 [16 June 1971] 28376/72 Heading D2A In a continuous process for the manufacture of glass fibre reinforced plaster board, an aqueous slurry of plaster is conveyed by an endless conveyor, a quantity of glass fibre strands is delivered onto the exposed surface of the slurry on the conveyor, water is removed from the mixture and the mixture is compressed against the conveyor whilst continuing to remove water. After separating the board from the conveyor it is cut to size. In Fig. 1 the slurry mixed with glass fibre strands is delivered from a batch mixer 1 to a reservoir 2 from which it passes to a carriage 3 which reciprocates over a conveyor 4 and delivers the slurry thereto. The conveyor comprises vacuum boxes 5 with perforated tops and apertured bases which are connected to a vacuum pump via transversely spaced stationary vessels 11 so that water is removed from the slurry during movement of the boxes over such vessels. Additional glass fibres are delivered by apparatus 16. The perforated tops of the boxes are covered by a filter cloth 9 and paper 15 fed from a roll 14. The mixture is compressed by a roller 21 and an endless belt 12. A glass fibre mesh layer may be delivered to the conveyor with the delivery of the slurry.
