1396220 Bearings HUGHES AIRCRAFT CO 18 May 1973 [5 June 1972] 23811/73 Heading F2A A ball bearing retainer comprises an annular body 18 of open pore, resilient, microporous material having sides generally perpendicular to the central axis of the annulus formed by the body, and respective annular reinforcing plates 21, 22 of relatively rigid material secured to said sides. The microporous material is preferably a polyurethane foam having a Shore A hardness of between 20 and 60, and hold between 40 and 80% by volume of a lubricating oil. The plates 21, 22 are of glass fibre, fabric reinforced epoxy resin, or metal, and are fixed together with rivets 25, or are adhered to the annular body by means of phenolic or epoxy resin adhesive. The ball pockets 20 are cylindrical or spherical in shape. The annular body 18 may be made by impregnating the microporous material with a water soluble resin to make it rigid, machining it, and then washing out the resin. |
