titleOfInvention Dyeing process
abstract 1416851 Dyeing polyacrylonitrile fibres E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 29 Nov 1973 [30 Nov 1972 17 Oct 1973] 55340/73 Heading D1B Dry-spun polyacrylonitrile filaments which are substantially undrawn and contain in excess of 10% spinning solvent by weight are dyed by (1) passing a bundle of filaments through an aqueous extraction bath having a temperature below 80‹C at a rate of at least 10 yds per minute, until the spinning solvent content of the filaments is below 10% by weight of the filaments, (2) squeezing the bundle of filaments under pressure to remove most of the extraction bath liquid therefrom, (3) contacting the filaments with dye liquor at 80‹C or below at nearly zero stretch, (4) removing excess liquid by squeezing under pressure to the extent that there is a net pick up of liquid dye mixture on the filaments, which remain in contact with dye liquor and, before or after removing the excessive liquid in step (4), (5) drawing the filaments between 1.5 Î and 4.5 Î at a temperature between 60‹ and 80‹C whilst the filaments are in contact with the dye liquor. An aqueous medium may be used to remove excess dye liquor after the filaments have remained in contact therewith for at least 10 seconds. The drawing step (5) may take place while the filaments are immersed in an aqueous solution of boric dye.
