titleOfInvention Process for the preparation of sulphobetaines of alkaloids in a pure state
abstract 1417042 Sulphobetaines of alkaloids LABORATOIRES BIOTHERAX 20 March 1973 [22 March 1972] 13385/73 Heading C2C Sulphobetaines of alkaloids, substantially free from simple alkaloids are prepared by the addition in equimolecular proportions of a sulpholactone of Formula I in which n is a whole number, in a solvent to an alkaloid of the tropine group in solution in the same solvent at a temperature in the range 15‹ to 25‹ C., air-drying the resulting precipitate and subjecting the dried precipitate to a series of washes at 40-60‹ C. with the same solvent as referred to above, the solvent optionally having ammonia of 22‹ B added to it. Preferably n in the formula has a value of 1 to 4. Examples describe the preparation of a sulphobetaine of atropine from atropine and propane sulpholactone.
