abstract | 1418719 Laundry detergent PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 9 Nov 1973 [10 Nov 1972] 52047/73 Heading C5D [Also in Division D1] A granular, built laundry detergent composition comprises (A) 2 to 30% by wt. of an anionic (other than soap), non-ionic, ampholytic, or zwitterionic detergent or a mixture thereof; (B) 10 to 60% by wt. of an organic or inorganic builder; (C) 1 to 50% by wt. of a smectite-type clay fabric softening agent having an ion exchange capacity of at least 50 m.eq./100 g.; (D) 0À5 to 15% by wt. of a substantially waterinsoluble quaternary ammonium anti-static agent of formula wherein each R is C 10 to C 22 hydrocarbyl, each R<SP>1</SP> is a C 1 -C 4 hydrocarbyl, X is an anion and n is 1 to 3, at a wt. ratio of (C) to (D) of from 40 : 1 to 1 : 1. An admixture with water, (A) and (B) dissolve and (C) and (D) are independently suspended in the aqueous medium. This essential property of the composition is obtained by spraying a melt of the quaternary ammonium anti-static agent (D) on to granules of the other components (A), (B) and (C) formed by spraydrying. The clay (C) is a dioctahedral expandable three-layer alumino silicate or a trioctahedral expandable three-layer magnesium silicate and may be a montmorillonite, volchonskoite, nontronite, hectorite, sauconite or vermiculite. (D) is preferably ditallowdimethylammonium chloride. The builder (B) may be sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium nitrilotriacetate, sodium mellitate, sodium citrate or sodium carbonate. The organic detergent may be a 1À22 : 1 wt. ratio of sodium tallow alkyl sulphate and sodium linear C 12 alkyl benzene sulphonate. For the simultaneous cleansing, softening and providing anti-static properties to fabrics, the fabrics are contacted with 0À02 to 2% by wt. of the aforesaid composition. |
