titleOfInvention | Flow control valve for a water conditioning apparatus |
abstract | 1428090 Water-softener valve CALGON CORP 11 Nov 1974 [16 Nov 1973] 48636/74 Heading B1J [Also in Division F2] In a valve for a water conditioning apparatus a valve spool 24 is moved from a service position (shown) to a regenerating position by venting a chamber 22 to a drain port 70 by a pilot valve 73 which is operated manually or automatically by a timer 84. In the service position a water inlet port 40 communicates via openings 48 with a tank port 50 which is connected to a water softener tank 13. A pipe 57 extending from the button of the tank 13 is connected to a tank port 51 which communicates with a water outlet port 41 through openings 45, 41 and a valve seat 33. When the pilot valve is opened to vent chamber 22, which is normally at inlet water pressure, the pressure in chamber 21 which is connected to the inlet via passages 81, 82 acting on piston 28 moves the spool to the left to communicate the inlet 40 with an injector port 60 so that water can flow through a brine injector 61. The brine solution enters the valve at port 63 to flow to tank port 51 and through the tank in reverse flow to exit via tank port 50 and open pilot valve 73. |
