titleOfInvention Process for the dyeing of organic material from organic solvents by application of a short goods to liquor ratio
abstract 1428781 Dyeing or optically brightening organic materials CIBA-GEIGY AG 19 Jan 1973 [21 Jan 1972] 2993/73 Headings D1B and D1P Organic materials are dyed or optically brightened from organic solvents at a goods to liquor ratio of 1:1¢ to 1:4, the dye or optical brightener being dissolved and/or dispersed in the organic solvent which is applied at a temperature below the absorption temperature of the dyestuffs or optical brightener, the materials then being heated in a closed chamber at 100‹ to 150‹C to finish the dyeing which is optionally subjected to subsequent finishing and/or washing treatments after extensive removal of the residual liquor with an organic solution, suspension and/or organic solvent in a goods to liquor ratio of 1:1¢ to 1 to 4, and then drying. The dye liquor is applied at at least 80‹C preferably in atomised form, the material being kept in motion in the closed chamber, the material being preferably preheated with the vapour of the solvent to at least 80‹C. Aliphatic halogenated hydrocarbons e.g. tetrachloroethylene are preferably used for the process, substrates being synthetic polyamide, cellulose triacetate, polyacrylonitrile and polyester, disperse dyes are preferably used. An apparatus for the process comprises a dyeing chamber provided with an atomisation nozzle to supply dye liquor, means to return dye liquor to the nozzle, means to move the material in the chamber, a fixing chamber with a heating jacket, means to maintain a predetermined solvent-vapour atmosphere, means for effecting movement of the material and optionally washing and drying means.
