| abstract | 1432331 Coumarin dyes SUMITOMO CHEMICAL CO Ltd 27 Dec 1973 [25 Dec 1972] 59835/73 Heading C4P Coumarin dyestuffs of the general formula and their quaternary compounds of the general formula wherein R 1 is H, chlorine or C 1 -C 2 alkyl group, R 2 and R 3 are H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl, R 4 is C 1 -C 2 alkyl or benzyl and X- is an anion are prepared by reacting an ortho-diamine substituted by R 1 with a compound X-CH 2 -Y wherein X and Y, which may be the same or different are carboxyl, carbamoyl, alkoxycarbonyl or cyano in 10-70% sulphuric acid to prepare a benzimidazolyl acetic acid which is then reacted with a 2-hydroxy-4-N(R 2 )R 3 benzaldehyde to form the unquaternated dye which is then optionally reacted with an alkylating agent. The dyes give greenish yellow shades on polyesters, acid-modified polyesters, acid modified polyamides and polyacrylonitrile. |
