titleOfInvention Image-receiving material for silver salt diffusion transfer process
abstract 1451715 Photographic silver salt diffusion transfer image-receiving material FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd and HYDRON EUROPE Inc 15 March 1974 [20 March 1973] 11745/74 Heading G2C A photographic silver salt diffusion transfer image-receiving material bears on a support (I) a layer of at least one water-insoluble, hydrophilic, water- and alkali-permeable homopolymer, copolymer or graft polymer of a monoacrylate or monomethacrylate of a polyhyridic alcohol containing a compound which improves the property of the silver image formed in layer (II) and which is diffusible into layer (II) upon contact with alkali in a processing liquid and (II) a binder layer containing silver deposition nuclei on layer (I). The hydrophilic homopolymers and copolymers may have a molecular weight greater than 10,000 and the hydrophilic polymer in layer (I) may be a homopolymer of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or 3-hydroxypropyl methacrylate, a copolymer of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and acrylamide, 2-hydroxyethyl-acrylate and 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and methyl methacrylate or 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate and n-butyl methacrylate or a graft polymer of hydroxyethyl cellulose and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate or gelatine and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate. The compound in layer (I) may be a mercapto, imino or iodine compound and may be 2-imidazolidinethione (Examples 1 and 2), 2-mercaptoimidazole (Example 3), 1-methyl-2-mercaptoimidazole (Example 4), 4-phenyl-3-mercapto-4H-1,2, 4-triazole (Example 5), 5-propyl-2-mercaptobenzimidazole (Example 6), 1-phenyl-5-mercaptotetrazole (Example 7), 6-lauryl-4-mercapto-1, 3, 3a, 7-tetraazaindene (Example 8), 5-nitrobenzimidazole (Example 9) or 6-bromobenzimidazole (Example 10). Many other examples of suitable compounds are listed. The binder in layer (II) may be a hydrophilic organic polymer or an inorganic colloid e.g. colloidal silica or alumina.
