abstract |
1459858 Nitration of halobenzenes TEIJIN Ltd 25 Feb 1974 [26 Feb 1973] 8457/74 Heading C2C A process for nitrating halogenated benzene derivatives comprises reacting a halogenated benzene derivative with nitric acid in the liquid phase in the presence of a catalyst composed of an oxyacid of sulphur or phosphorus supported on silica-alumina and/or alumina. Preferably the catalyst is one prepared by impregnating the carrier with sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid, and then calcining it at a temperature of at least 100 C. The reaction is preferably carried out at room temperature to about 100 C., and the nitric acid is preferably used in an amount of 5 to 50 mol. per cent based on the halogenated benzene. After the reaction, the catalyst is preferably separated by filtration and the product is preferably separated by distillation. |
