1460710 Alkali metal polyphosphates ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 13 Dec 1973 [30 Nov 1972] 55272/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C5] A liquid cleaning composition comprises an alkali metal hydroxide or silicate and 2-20 wt. per cent (as P 2 O 5 ) of a "builder solution" made by reacting an aqueous polyphosphoric acid solution (82-86 wt. per cent P 2 O 5 ) with an alkali metal hydroxide or carbonate at pH 4-12 and 15-70‹ C. The polyphosphoric acid may be obtained from P 2 O 5 made by burning electrothermally produced phosphorus. The polyphosphoric acid and the base may be run into a cooled, stirred heel. The ratio alkali metal cations : phosphorus atoms may be 1 : 1 to 2 : 1 and the final reaction pH 8-10. The molar ratio Na : K may be 1 : 10 to 5 : 1. The cleaning composition may comprise 0À05-70% (preferably 0À5-3%) surface active agent and 10-15% NaOH or KOH, or 25-40% alkali metal silicate. It may be a hard surface cleaner (e.g. for ovens, bottles or beer kegs). |
