titleOfInvention | Use of repellent compositions in electrophotography and photolithography |
abstract | 1470535 Repellent polymer coatings EASTMAN KODAK CO 17 May 1974 [17 May 1973] 22145/74 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 and G2] Repellent layers in electrophotographic and photolithographic materials are obtained from compositions containing a fluorinated or poly (siloxane) oil having a b.p. greater than 00‹C at 1 mm mercury pressure and a surface energy less than 27 ergs/cm<SP>2</SP>, and a solid fluorinated polymer having repeating units of the formula wherein each R<SP>1</SP> is H or C 1 -C 4 alkyl and Y is a group of the formula wherein n is 0 or 1 and R is a fluorinated alkyl or fluoroalkoxy-fluorinated alkyl group having up to 20 carbon atoms. The compositions preferably also include a polymeric binder. The fluorinated oil may be, for example, a perfluoro alkyl polyether, a copolymer of trifluoronitrosomethane and tetrafluoroethylene, or a poly(perfluoroalkylene triazine). The solid fluorinated polymer may be a fluoroalkyl or fluoroalkoxy-fluoro-alkyl (meth) acrylate polymer or a polymer of a vinyl ester of a fluoro-alkanoic acid; the polymer may be a homopolymer or a copolymer containing comonomer units with and/or without fluorine therein. The polymeric binder may be, for example, a polyacrylate, a polymethacrylate, a silicone resin or, preferably a fluorohydrocarbon resin, e.g. polyvinylidene fluoride or a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride with one or more other fluoro-olefins. The compositions may further include a minor amount of an inert fluorocarbon powder, e.g. powdered polytetrafluoroethylene, as an anti-adhesive filler. For application, the composition is suitably formed into a solution or dispersion in an organic solvent and coated onto a substrate material, e.g. wood, paper, metals, plastics, laminates, and multilayered supports such as metal-coated plastic supports. For electrographic reproduction, there is provided a sheet material comprising an electrically conductive support coated with a dielectric layer having a surface of the repellent composition. |
